Meet Mr. Samuel Isidro. Growing up in the Philipines with his three siblings wasn't the easiest way of life, but he wouldn't trade it for anything. He told me about some of his college adventures like hunting for bats. BATS! And according to Mr. Isidro, they taste like chicken. I'll just take his word for it.

He spent time in his early adulthood teaching elderly people in the village of the Ifugao Tribe to read and write the Bible. He also taught them life skills in exchange for learning the village culture. Wow, what an experience!

In 2000, at the age of 40, he came to America with his wife, Fely, and their three children following a job opportunity. They have found a wonderful life here, and he is grateful for all the adventures God has had for him and the many that are still to come!

When I asked him for some words of wisdom, this is what he shared:

Make good use of your time and live every moment to the fullest. Embrace diversity with an open mind, and seek the unknown!

Meet Mr. Charles Elders, Jr.

Mr. Elders has been my neighbor my whole life. He loves to laugh and talk and share what he has with others. He is a go getter! He still mows his own grass and drives everywhere.

Today I was talking to him about his life experiences while sitting on his front porch.

Born in 1926, he is 89 years old today. Happy Birthday Mr. Elders! He shared with me some good and bad times from his life. His happiest moments were marrying his wife Juanita and leading his son to Christ. The saddest moment in his life was losing his wife in 2004. 

Mr. Elders has a pet rooster Rojo, who he loves to just hang out with. He said he always wanted a pet rooster, so finally he just decided to get one, just one!

He is the happiest 89 year old I have ever met! I am glad to know him. Thanks for the fun conversations Mr. Elders!
